LJPD searching for suspect in La Junta shooting that left one in hospital

(LA JUNTA, Colo.) — The La Junta Police Department (LJPD) reported that it is investigating a shooting that happened on Sunday, Aug. 10, that left one victim in the hospital.

According to LJPD, around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, officers arrived at the scene in the 100 block of Carson Avenue, near Highway 50, where they found a victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.

LJPD reported that investigating officers identified the suspect as 40-year-old Chezarary Chavez, who has a felony warrant out for his arrest. Chavez’s location is currently unknown, but he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details of the incident are being released at this time.
