(SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo.) — A man was arrested on Sunday, May 18 after he allegedly approached several people working in their yards and threatened them while swinging two large swords around.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), deputies originally responded just before 11 a.m. on Sunday to a report of a man walking through a neighborhood in Security-Widefield carrying two large swords and threatening people. The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Daniel Adolpho-Rivera.
When deputies arrived in the neighborhood, they found Adolpho-Rivera walking on Larch Drive east of Security Boulevard. When deputies tried to make contact with him, Adolpho-Rivera allegedly ran away and entered the backyard if a nearby home. Deputies established containment, and Adolpho-Rivera was located hiding under several large plywood boards.
After building a rapport, deputies were able to convince Adolpho-Rivera to surrender. He was taken into custody without further incident. He sustained minor injuries while running from deputies, and was medically cleared on scene.
Following the arrest, EPSO said the swords were found during a search of the area. The investigation identified two victims, who said they had been outside working in their yard when Adolpho-Rivera allegedly approached them, swinging the swords and making verbal threats.
“I am grateful for my deputy’s quick response and skills to negotiate a peaceful surrender from this suspect,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Because of their training and dedication to our mission, everyone safely walked away from a dangerous situation.”
Adolpho-Rivera was booked into the El Paso County Jail on multiple charges, including two counts of felony menacing and one count of criminal trespass. He is being held on a $2,000 bond.
