MOPH Chapter 423 celebrates National Purple Heart Day

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Wednesday, Aug. 7 was National Purple Heart Day and The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Chapter 423 will hold an open house on Saturday, Aug. 10 to celebrate.

MOPH Chapter 423 was started in 1977 and named in honor of James M. Selix who was killed in action in Vietnam located at 2 Carson Circle in Fountain. MOPH Chapter 423 is the largest chapter in Colorado with a mission to foster an environment of goodwill and camaraderie among combat-wounded veterans, promote patriotism, support necessary legislative initiatives, and provide services to all veterans and their families.

MOPH said the event is open to the public and will focus on honoring combat-wounded service members. The event will have food, prizes, and special guests including the mayor of Fountain, Sharon Thompson. During the event, those eligible for memberships to either MOPH or Auxiliary are offered to sign up for free. MOPH Auxiliary is for spouses, children, and grandchildren of Purple Heart recipients.

The event will be held on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
