Motorcyclist in deadly Austin Bluffs Parkway crash identified

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has identified a motorcycle rider who was killed in a crash in the evening hours of Friday, March 1.

According to CSPD, on Friday at around 5:50 p.m. officers were called to a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle at the intersection of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Meadow Lane. When first responders arrived they found the rider dead on the scene.

CSPD said the SUV was traveling east on Austin Bluffs Pkwy. attempting to make a left onto Meadow Lane while the motorcycle was traveling west on Austin Bluffs Pkwy. The motorcycle allegedly failed to stop for a red light and hit the SUV.

On Monday, March 4 the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the motorcyclist as 23-year-old Joseph Heath. CSPD said Heath’s death is the 12th fatality in Colorado Springs in 2024; at this time last year, there were 11.
