(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A local nonprofit is asking the community to help stock the shelves for seniors facing food insecurity.
Silver Key Senior Services is inviting the community to participate in July’s Bountiful Pantry Food Drive to help seniors in need. Donations will support older adults through Silver Key’s food pantry and delivery programs.
“Summer is a critical time when many of our senior neighbors face increased hardship,” said Jason DeaBueno, President & CEO of Silver Key. “Community support through food donations helps ensure our older adults don’t have to choose between groceries and other essential needs.”
The nonprofit is requesting items such as non-perishable food, including peanut butter, canned meats, pasta, rice, boxed meals, cereal, and canned fruits and vegetables. Pet food donations are also encouraged to support seniors with companion animals.
“…Many older adults will feed their pets before themselves and go hungry rather than let their beloved companions go without,” Silver Key wrote.
Donation dates and locations will take place:
King Soopers (near front lobby) located at 9225 N Union Boulevard from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Safeway (inside near Starbucks) located at 1425 S. Murray Boulevard from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Those who are unable to attend the drive can still donate. Donations are accepted year-round at 1605 S. Murray Boulevard, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
