DENVER (KDVR) — For the first time in Monarch Casino Resort Spa’s 12-year history, one lucky player won the $1 million jackpot on a slot machine.
On Jan. 23, a guest at Monarch Casino toppled a “progressive jackpot” on the Dragon Link slot machine and won $1,085,435.89. The casino said the guest made history on a $50 bet.
According to the casino, Dragon Link’s progressive jackpot steadily increases with each wager that does not win the progressive.
“We are thrilled to celebrate monumental wins like this with our guests,” said Erica Ferris, director of marketing for Monarch Casino Resort Spa. “Jackpots like these are extremely rare, and to see one happen, our gaming floor was quite the spectacle.”
The casino, located in Black Hawk, said this is the first time a guest won a seven-figure jackpot in the 12 years it’s been open. Previously, the casino was known as the Riviera Black Hawk Casino before it was sold and renamed the Monarch Casino in 2013.
While 12 years may seem like a long time to hit a slot machine jackpot, Investopedia, a source for financial content, said slot machines have some of the worst odds when it comes to gambling. The odds can range from one-in-5,000 to one in about 34 million of winning the top prize when using the maximum coin play.
Monarch Casino said the lucky winner chose to remain anonymous.
