Prom-like experience aims to celebrate young adults with special needs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A prom-like experience for over 1,300 people will take place on Friday, Feb. 7 in three local churches for young adults with special needs.

For 10 years, ‘Night to Shine,’ an unforgettable experience for people with special needs, has been celebrated annually on the Friday before Valentine’s Day. Pikes Peak Christian Church, Zeal, and Core Church will host ‘Night to Shine’ with the Tim Tebow Foundation on Friday.

The event is not only occurring in Colorado Springs but at nearly 700 churches around the world in 80 countries. The worldwide movement aims to change how culture embraces people with special needs and to rally the church worldwide to stand up for those who are differently-abled.

“Night to Shine is my favorite night of the year, but not just because we get to throw the biggest, best party for people with special needs in the world. It’s my favorite because we get to remind people who are often overlooked or forgotten that their life has a purpose and that they are loved,” said Tim Tebow, founder of the Tim Tebow Foundation. “When you tell someone they have value, that their life is significant, and that they are loved by the God of this universe, it changes everything. Every town, every village, every nation needs a Night to Shine because we believe every single person needs to hear that they were created in love, by love, and for love, and that they ARE loved.”

Each guest at Night to Shine will be welcomed with paparazzi and a friendly crowd. Once inside, guests will be able to enjoy a catered dinner, hair and makeup stations, shoe-shining areas, limousine rides, corsages and boutonnieres, karaoke, and more. Each guest is then crowned king or queen of the prom.

A week before the event, Something New Boutique also held an event and provided free dresses for those attending. Each shopper got their own personal stylist and a private suite with a mountain view to find their perfect dress.

The event is taking place place on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at three churches in Colorado Springs.
