(LAKEWOOD, Colo.) — TCA Flag Football achieved a historic victory on Saturday, Oct. 25, winning their first-ever state title by defeating Mountain View, the team they lost to last year.
The team, which was established only two years ago, had previously faced the Mountain Lions in their first season, suffering a 26-point shutout loss. This year, they returned to the championship stage with renewed determination and secured a 34-point shutout victory.
“We thought about that every single day,” said TCA Junior Ryann Ferguson, reflecting on the previous year’s loss and how it motivated the team.
“To get the win and beat them more than they beat us last year feels so good,” said TCA quarterback Kelsey Peterson.
The victory was especially significant for the seniors on the team, providing them with a memorable conclusion to their high school sports careers. The team’s journey from a fledgling program to state champions in such a short time is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
“I’m just so happy, it doesn’t feel real because I’m a senior, it’s really sad, but it’s also just such an amazing experience,” said TCA senior Whitney Meister.
Meister is especially near and dear to FOX21’s Chief Meteorologist Matt Meister, who expressed his pride to see his daughter go out as a state champion: “I’m so happy for the coaches and the girls, they’ve worked so hard, and it just makes you proud.”
