(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The victim of a shooting on New Year’s Day, whose death marked the first homicide of 2025 in Colorado Springs, has been identified by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office as 35-year-old Andrea Martinez.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), on Jan. 1 just after 12:30 a.m., officers responded to the 5800 block of Oakwood Boulevard near Templeton Gap Road and North Powers Boulevard for reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found Martinez dead on the scene with at least one gunshot wound. “The CSPD Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation,” police wrote.
On Jan. 3, the Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy and identified the victim as Martinez. “While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, this is being investigated as a homicide,” CSPD wrote.
