(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A driver has been arrested and a victim identified after a fatal crash near Old Colorado City earlier this month, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
On Sept. 5, just past 10:30 p.m., CSPD received a call about a crash involving a car and a pedestrian near the intersection of Highway 24 and 26th Street. CSPD, the Colorado State Patrol, and the Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to the crash, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.
On Sept. 8, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the pedestrian and identified him as 28-year-old Jeremy Ives.
According to CSPD, the driver left the scene of the crash but was later caught by officers and troopers. The driver, identified as 59-year-old Cameron Walsh, was arrested and faces several charges, including Vehicular Homicide, Driving Under the Influence, Hit and Run, and Driving After Revocation Prohibited.
Ive’s death marks the 41st traffic death in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 39. According to CSPD, in the last 365 days, there have been 51 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
