Victim in homicide near Airport Road identified

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said the victim of a homicide on Saturday, Jan. 18 has been identified as 50-year-old Donte Cross by the El Paso County Coroner.

According to CSPD, on Saturday, at around 10 p.m., officers were called to the 4100 block of Apollo Village Circle off Airport Road about reports of a shooting. When officers arrived they found a man and woman dead, along with another injured woman. The injured woman was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

On Monday, Jan. 20 the El Paso County Coroner identified the deceased as Cross and 32-year-old Tiana Smith. CSPD said while the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Coroner, police are investigating Cross’ death as a homicide and Smith’s death as a suicide.

All people involved have been accounted for, however, the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact CSPD at (719) 444-4000.

Police said this was the second homicide in Colorado Springs for 2025, at this time last year there were none.
