(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — We are the Royal Gorge Region, a place where adventures begin, and there is an activity for everyone to enjoy.
The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park is located in the heart of Canon City and offers must-have experiences for those who are looking to explore the area with a kick. The bridge, built in 1929, is suspended 956 feet over the Arkansas River. Visitors can experience it on a gondala, rock climb the Via Ferrata, or zipline over it, and those who dare can even ‘fly’ on The Royal Rush Skycoaster, an experience where risers are harnessed and then swing over the Arkansas River.
The Skycoaster is the ‘World’s Scariest’ as described by Marketing and Communication Director Brooklyn Osborne, because it ‘shoots’ those who try it through the Gorge at about 50 miles per hour. While the zip line is one of the tallest.
“You really see people conquering their fears,” Osbourne said. “A lot of people do come here, and they are afraid of heights and are just trusting the equipment, trusting the people. But then once they fly in and you see that smile in their face and excitement of conquering their fear is totally worth it.”
Those in Colorado who haven’t had the pleasure to enjoy the park are in luck: the park is offering a sale during April that lets them get a season pass half-priced. Season passes include free experiences, the record-breaking gondola, and Playland.
This upcoming April, the park will celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 19, by offering $15 admission to those who mention Earth Day. On Sunday, April 20, individuals are invited to join the annual Easter Sunrise Service led by Pastor Grant Adkisson from Canyon Cowboy Church. This event is free, and gates open at 5:30 a.m. with service set to begin at 6:30 a.m.
Then, starting in May, the park will host a movie night on the fourth Saturday of each month until September. Season pass holders can enjoy it for free.
As for those who needed more time to see the park in all its glory, validated tickets allow them to come back for a second visit and enjoy whatever they missed the day before.
“Sometimes it’s hard to get everything in a day,” Osbourne said. “Weather-permitting is a big concept here with our rides, and then is just really hard to get everything you want to do done in a day.”
