(WOODLAND PARK, Colo.) — An astronaut will be answering questions for Woodland Park students on Monday, April 21, during a 20-minute space-to-Earth call.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that astronaut Nichole Ayers will answer prerecorded science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-related questions from aboard the International Space Station. It will be available to watch on the NASA STEM YouTube Channel at 9:55 a.m. Mountain Time on Monday.
The event is hosted by Woodland Park High School, but is also open to students from Woodland Park Middle School, as a way to show students that even though they live in a small town, they can achieve big dreams. Ayers, who is from Colorado Springs and Divide, is a graduate of Woodland Park.
Astronauts have continuously lived and worked on the space station for over 24 years, testing technologies, performing science, and developing skills needed to explore farther from Earth. They communicate with NASA’s Mission Control Center in Houston 24 hours a day through the Space Communications and Navigation Near Space Network.
