You can now report certain crimes to CSPD online

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — In an effort to reduce response time and make crime prevention more efficient, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) will now allow citizens to report certain crimes online.

According to CSPD, this new system will allow people to document non-emergency incidents rather than waiting days for an officer to arrive for an in-person report. With the updated system, CSPD said eligible crimes can now be reported online in just minutes.

The crimes that can be submitted online include identity theft, break-ins to locations that are not your home or business, theft of money or property, theft of vehicle parts or license plates, and more.

In addition, CSPD said it is partnering with 988, the Colorado Mental Health Hotline, to provide additional resources for those experiencing a mental health crisis.

“With this new partnership, the CSPD 911 Communications Center will be able to transfer those in need of non-emergency mental health assistance directly to the licensed practitioners with 988,” CSPD said. “While CSPD will still be responding to calls for service with an active threat of physical danger, this open line of communication between CSPD and 988 will allow those in our community experiencing a non-emergent mental health crisis to connect with licensed professionals quickly.”

CSPD said both expansions of service within the department will allow for greater response to the needs of the community and create additional efficiencies for officers.
