(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association (CSYSA) has announced the appointment of a new executive director, after an extensive nationwide executive search.
Deborah Liles brings more than 25 years of experience as a dedicated music educator and accomplished jazz singer, according to CSYSA. She holds a degree in Theater and Music Performance and Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. CSYSA said her extensive career reflects her passion for nurturing young musicians, fostering a love for music, and developing students’ technical skills and artistic expression.
In 1998, Liles founded “The Singers Studio,” a youth music education nonprofit organization that she successfully managed until 2022. Most recently, she has worked with the CASA Association (First Judicial District) in Leavenworth, Kan., where she continued her commitment to educational and community development.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Deborah joining our team,” said Rich Wood, President of the CSYSA Board of Directors. “Her wealth of experience and dedication to music education will be invaluable as we continue to inspire and develop the next generation of young musicians. We look forward to great things from her in the coming years.”
Beyond her teaching career, CSYSA said Liles has performed at prestigious jazz venues, including Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Blue Note NYC and the Hampton Jazz Festival. Known for her soulful style, she has collaborated with renowned musicians, performing a repertoire that spans classic jazz standards to contemporary and original music.
CSYSA said her expertise in both education and performance uniquely positions her to lead the youth symphony into a new era of growth and artistic excellence.
